About

For over a decade, Joti Buttar has been a dedicated public servant, working at the intersection of government, policy, and community. A proud daughter of immigrant parents, she understands the power of inclusion, the urgency of action, and the responsibility of leadership. Her work is rooted in removing systemic barriers, building stronger communities, and delivering results for everyday people.

As a Senior Advisor at the Government of Alberta, Joti helped ensure grants, and policies such as the Anti-Racism Action Plan were culturally inclusive, accessible and equitable for all Albertans. She worked across ministries, including  Culture, Status of Women, and Seniors and Housing, to ensure programs and services were available to diverse communities. From creating inclusive cultural media outreach plans to organizing ministerial interviews with ethnic media outlets, she made sure no one was left behind in the conversation.

Joti played a pivotal role in ensuring Alberta's commitment to diversity wasn’t just symbolic. She helped shape inclusive communications speeches, press releases, and outreach materials that reflected the communities they were meant to serve. She organized large-scale events at the Legislature Building, including Sikh Heritage Month, Filipino Heritage Month, Diwali, and Holi, making government spaces more welcoming and representative.

Her career has been built on advancing racial and economic justice, and equitable access to education, housing, and healthcare. She’s worked on major infrastructure projects ensuring public engagement was meaningful, transparent, and inclusive of all communities.

As a grassroots organizer, she’s advocated for youth programs, affordable housing, dependable transit, safer neighborhoods, and economic growth that includes everyone. She knows how to get things done, whether it’s advocating for small business owners, building bridges with cultural organizations, or creating policies that work for single parents, newcomers, and seniors alike.

Now she’s ready to bring that experience and energy to City Hall.

As City Councillor for Ward Karhiio, Joti will fight for:

  • Healthy, connected communities that are safe, inclusive, and supported
  • Transit systems you can count on and investments in the infrastructure families rely on daily
  • Smart, responsible spending that ensures every tax dollar delivers value
  • Economic growth and job creation that lifts up local businesses and families

Joti is running with the Better Edmonton Party because she believes our city needs a practical, responsible approach to governance that respects taxpayers while investing strategically in Edmonton's future. She is committed to the party's core principles of fiscal responsibility, practical solutions, collaborative leadership, transparent governance, and strategic vision.
